Cocktail Party description - "The Newwws finds headlines from sources on the Internet in which you are interested and displays them in a window. It then keeps the headlines up-to-date, automatically."
Information is an important factor in all our lives, whether it is
the latest football results, fast breaking news or business details. The
Internet, however, is a huge, global source of information, and identifying and
extracting useful information takes time and effort.
Once found, an
information source needs constant monitoring for changes or updates. If
information is not reliable and up-to-date then it is of limited use.
The Newwws harvests headline, summary and image information from
pre-defined web-sites. It displays this information in a window so the original
article is only a click away.
The Newwws uses Sources to identify
information on web-sites and to monitor them for changes. When a change occurs,
or something is added to the web-site the user is informed.
The changes are
shown in a scrolling ticker window that gives you summaries of all the
available information, or through the watch window that displays the newest
information, as it is created. From either window the full document is one
click away.
The BIS extends the functionality of The Newwws to allow multiple users to access the headline information. These headlines can also be grouped in to Feeds to simplify the information seen by the users. The advantages of this is that there is no administration for the user and the headlines are only downloaded once.
topSource: Definition of the information to be monitored on a web-site. Sources are used be The Newwws to extract headline, summary and image information.
Feed: The combined output of a set of sources that the BIS creates to supply its users.
