The BIS really
helps your organisation save time and money. Building on and expanding the core
functionality of The Newwws Family, the Business Information Server solves the
issues of presenting up-to-date information to the enterprise with a unique
approach to information management, with ROI in a matter of weeks.
BIS
enables you to monitor the information you need, including Wire Services,
Company and Government websites, specialist industry newsletters and magazines,
national and international newspapers and publications, and many more.
As
each site is updated the BIS gives you the information. The BIS automatically
searches Internet and Intranet sites for changes in information and content,
displaying summaries of the content in an easy-to-read format. TIP:

The
multi-user environment is ideal for corporate use. You know that if you read it
in tomorrow's newspaper then everyone already knows about it. With the BIS you
will be amongst the first to know the latest announcements about Competitors,
Markets, Products and Customers brought dynamically right to the key
decision-makers in your Company.
The Business Information Server has
two main components - the server and the client applications:
The
Server application administers the whole installation and collects
information from your chosen sources. These could be commercial and financial
web-sites, product or competitor related, or more general information like
world-wide weather or traffic reports, just headline news, or your own
bulletins from your Intranet. Links to the sources of information identified by
BIS are stored on the server for distribution to the client users.
A major benefit
of BIS is that information gathering is only carried out once for the whole
organisation. Furthermore, BIS is designed to minimise network traffic and only
inspects the text-based part of a web-site, freeing up valuable corporate
bandwidth for other use. Administration of the BIS is simple and can either be
carried out on the server, or remotely.
Functions include setting up Users
and, optionally, User Groups. The primary function is the definition of
Information Feeds. These are libraries of sources that can be assigned to Users
or Groups. Feeds can contain any number of sources; and may be defined by
content, audience or in any way appropriate your needs. For example, a feed may
contain only financial sector sources, or it may contain sources that are
useful to the marketing department.
The BIS Client is
freely distributable within an organisation and can be installed on each user's
workstation. When users log-in, they are able to access to the feeds assigned
them by the administrator. New information will be automatically updated and
displayed to the user. This means that a client user is able to receive all the
information they need without having to spend additional time and money
speculatively browsing for information. The client can either view summary
information in a scrolling ticker window or via a static watch window. A single
click on the link takes you directly to the information source.
